Baldwin5300 Replacement Latch, Lifetime Polished Brass

Worked perfectly to replace current outside door latch.

May be a good latch for a Baldwin door knob, but not a Baldwin door lever handle. The return spring is too weak to hold a door lever handle horizontally, so the handle droops down to a four o'clock position due to the weight of the lever.

Our Toll Brothers builder slapped together parts and I didn't realize our latch set was missing a sleeve that kept the bolt from twisting to the other position (this latch supports 2 different lengths). I'm not a handy DIY'er but I was able to replace this myself. It works smoothly enough that the wireless/automated door look system I bought and installed works with no problems.

This thing was 5x the price of the renovations unit that actually worked. This one sagged against the weight of the solid brass levers on my lock sets.

Poor design doesn’t fit

Spring too weak even for knobs. Tried grease on all rubbing parts, still needs to be closed by hand. Looks like it is not DOA, just a new design that will likely not work for older locks; this should be mentioned in description. I ordered the whole $300 front lock and it came with the exact same thing but the new lock design is slightly different so the friction and the forces on the latch are much reduced.

The latch was the correct part however my entry set was an older model which had been upgraded with new parts. After trying unsuccessfully to install the new latch I contacted Baldwin and explained the problem. The service person advised that I would need the upgraded parts and had a modification kit sent by mail. Included in the kit was the identical latch so I returned the Amazon purchased latch.
