I first ordered one of the expensive granite mortar/pestle's and it chipped in two places. It would have been easy to get cut inside had that gotten into the food. Scared me, so it is a object to just be admired visually now. I searched a better material and found this one....so glad I purchased this. No prepping it to get it ready for use, and no worries at all with it. It is thick substantial stainless steel with a perfect pestle. Thank you!

Mortar has excellent build quality. Pestle could be a bit heavier, but still works very well. I was using a stone mortar and pestle for medications, but residue remained. I have decided to use that set for preparing cooking spices (after thorough cleaning). This m&p leaves nothing behind, after adding water, crushes evenly, and has good "drag factor", meaning that contents are further pulverized by dragging around in circular motion. Would recommend this product to anyone needing a fully functional mortar and pestle. Very easy to clean.

While this certainly gets the job done, it's not as good as I expected. The material seems to be plastic coated by metal, and I'm afraid if I use it hard it'll just break. But there's no point in pounding hard anyway because the garlic or whatever is in it would go flying off.I would recommend buyers to shell out a few more dollars and go for the granite ones, IF you're looking to use this in the kitchen.It's extremely easy to clean though. I'm hoping the base will develop more friction as I keep using it.

Seems durable and works well, but the less than completely smooth bowl causes some of the pills we're crushing to stay behind as residue. That makes it necessary to rinse out the bowl and use it so that the strength of medications is not lost.

I originally was going to buy a porcelain mortar & pestle, but then what if I dropped it? So I decided to get a metal one. This product also comes with a lid. I like this product and its easy to clean.

Much heavier than I expected like five pounds or more. This is not a negative. I gave it four stars because I only received it today and haven't had a chance to test it. Will update once tested.

Does what it says. The price is a bit much. Other than that I am happy with my product.

The lid looks cheap, but really works. I love it so far.
