Product Description Scott Baio, Willie Aames. When a hormone-ravaged teenage nerd acquires special telekinetic powers, just imagine all the fun he can have. 1982/color/98 min/R. .com When high-school science nerd Barney Springboro develops the power to move objects with his mind, he immediately uses it to burst the buttons on a busty cheerleader's fuzzy pink sweater. Welcome to Zapped!, a classic example of teen sex comedies from the 1980s (such as Porky's, Private Resort, Revenge of the Nerds), combining awkward adolescent romance with a breast obsession that is somehow both leering and innocent. There's not much plot to speak of: Barney (one-time teen heartthrob Scott Baio) uses his powers to win a baseball game, get back at his oppressive parents (who try to have him exorcised), and help his best pal Peyton (Willie Aames, Eight is Enough) get laid with the aforementioned busty cheerleader (buxom blonde Heather Thomas, The Fall Guy). Along the way there are peculiar fantasy sequences about Star Trek and Einstein, as well as a strangely drawn-out subplot about the school principal (Robert Mandan, Soap) placing a personal ad. Zapped! is sprinkled with nudity and four-letter words, but what's even more striking is how the budding relationship between Barney and would-be reporter Bernadette (Felice Schachter, The Facts of Life) feels genuine and sincere--far moreso than the plastic, prefabricated romance of contemporary teen comedy. In fact, up until the berserk prom sequence when Barney goes into a weird, horndog-Carrie frenzy of telekinetic clothing removal, Zapped! is surprisingly sweet and will provide a dose of warm nostalgia for guys who grew up watching these movies. --Bret Fetzer

Wow, so much hasn't aged well.
I remember when this was a "current" movie as a kid of the 80's. Watching it today, so much was forward thinking and so much was so utterly reprehensible. As someone who grew up in that era, it's actually a pretty good example of how people thought and what was acceptable compared to what wasn't. Not that every nerdy kid was growing pot in the back of their school lab or that all the men were lechery rapists but attitudes were slowly changing about things like women's issues and race. It's not an overt lesson or a paragon of virtue but the little things in the background that are telling like Scatman's coach isn't treated any different than any other adult, the people of color aren't segregated (though there are not interracial couples), and most of the women are opinionated as well as fully capable of independent and adult thoughts, needs, and motives. Yes, the boys and men are rapey and far from exemplars, especially by today's standards, but they're "starting to change" like when Baio's character holds back his love interest's bike but then let's her go. It's a mediocre movie that is very cringeworthy today but it does have a value to bring as a bit of insight into the society of the time and the way men's minds were expected work at the time. I can't really recommend it as entertainment but it's worth a watch for a reminder of how things used to be and how they've changed in so many ways.

Fun 80s Teen Comedy
There were a lot of moments that had me in hysterics. It's a very funny movie, and for the most part the humor isn't as sophomoric as you might expect from the movie poster. There's a couple pop culture references/parodies too, and those were a nice addition. The effects were pretty impressive to me. You don't normally expect big special effects from a teen comedy, but seeing things flying around on their own, in an era before CGI was used in movies makes it a good deal more impressive. I can guess they probably held it up by strings, but I couldn't see any. There's another moment where the fish tank is emptied of water, and it looks as though they built an entire set sideways with the table glued to the wall, so that when the water falls out by gravity, it looks like it came out by "telekinesis."The only reason I gave the film 4 instead of 5 stars is the ridiculous, kind of trashy ending. I would expect, with the teenage mind, that exposing female breasts and wardrobe accidents would be the kind of thing to occur in the beginning of the movie, when it's just the guy and his buddy. But after getting a date/girlfriend? She gets instantly upset and wants to leave him because of the possibility that he might abuse his power to win at gambling (not even for himself, but for his friend), but she's only lightly amused by him acting like a 12 year old and stripping everyone at the prom? C'mon, that's the height of indecency, and surely she'd walk away with him acting like a jerk. But overall it was a funny movie, and I enjoyed it a good deal more than I expected to for an average-looking 80s teen comedy.

I respect Scott Baio but...
why would he support such an awful script? Commenters talk about being derogatory to women, heck it is derogatory to men to think this is what men want. For any woman to say this is how men think is a deluded opinion of men. The movie did not know if it was being a satire of horror flicks, a flesh flick, or a high school flick. Yeah, its great seeing free flowing boobies, but for what reason? Nothing in this movie had a valid cause and effect, no logic behind the plot, no good value in it at all, and insulting to any good standards. The exorcism was the worst part of the movie, just stupid. As much as I respect Scott Baio today I do have to admit he has come down a notch or two for this flick. I am sure glad I did not see it back then. What was anyone related to this flick thinking in making a reality?

Movie is prob 3 or 4 stars
So I was born in the 80s but unlike some of the whole outrage jackasses born in the 90s and 00s who are crying offended and deciding to write whole thinkpieces on a 40 year old gag comedy movie (esp the loser talking about blacks portrayal...got me LMAO. I'm black but s/he reading too much into it.), I think the film was goodmFilm is definitely a retro and 80s. I was actually pretty impressed with how they did the floating stuff. Looks better than some stuff I seen in the 90s and 00s even lol.As far as the story it kinda doesn't have a story so much about Scott Baio's character getting powers and using them....which is really the aspect I was hoping would be explored modem it'd more like random side stories with a bunch of times him using his powers while him and the Bernadette character develop a romantic interests. I thought their romantic story was actually cute and well done thanks to Felice Schachter's well-done acting job.The only negatives for me was the side-stories. Somewhere indeed funny and a good time but like I said I wanted a direct story.Movie is probably 4 stars in regards to the 80s, 3 stars in regards to films today. But I'm giving it 5 stars because I can't stand people who to who hate a whole movie because of one thing that offended them. Grow up you donkeys and learn to keep your outrage thoughtpieces to your Gender Studies or another Victim Ideology classes or twitter. This is an entertainment piece

It's a daft old 80s flick and it has some good bits but beware.... the picture quality is absolutely horrendous. It's like watching a VHS... a very bad VHS. I found it very irritating to watch.

Zapped old but good
We first bought this on VHS Video back in the late 80's for our children but it is still as good now. The acting is not brilliant but the music and comedy is great, well worth buying on DVD and it is not expensive even if it had to come from the USA
