A: It is meant for about 150-275 lb sliding doors. But for patio sliding doors even if they are lighter they will still need a heavy duty slideback  because the wheels are on the bottom and cause more friction.

**Q: My sliding door  opens on the outside track so the closer would have to be on the outside of the house. Will that work?**
A: Yes, the mechanism can mount on exterior as well as interior. Bracket will work for either condition.
