We Were There at the Boston Tea Party

Exellent historical fiction for kids, historically accurate, great story in great series
This book was originally published in the 1950's, part of the "We Were There" book series. I read these as a kid, and loved this book and others in the series. This was out of print but is now available in a facsimile paperback edition. The story is as good as I remembered, and my daughter and I both enjoyed. I bought extra copies to give to nieces and nephews. In this book, and in the entire series, there is a historical event and important historical characters, interspersed with a fictional boy and girl, usually a brother and sister. For every book in this series, a historical consultant, usually a college professor specializing in that historical period, checks for historical accuracy. In this book, a boy and girl become involved as spies on behalf of Sam Adams and help prepare for and participate in the "Boston Tea Party." They also meet Paul Revere. The stories bring history to life, make it interesting, and help to show the excitement and importance of the events related to the founding of our nation. Many of the other books in this series have not been reprinted, though some have been - in this case, the price is excellent since it is a paperback, whereas many others in the series are now out of print, and the few copies available as used books are often expensive. I read this book myself in the summer before 3rd grade, one of the first chapter books I ever read, and I loved it, but it's not 3rd grade reading level; I was reading above grade level. I looked it up on Wikipedia, and it said easy enough for younger readers, but interest level includes even high school. I'm not sure that most 3rd graders could read it, but would enjoy it if it were read to them, but maybe 4th, and I would say most 5th or 6th graders should be able to read easily. But I think even up through 9th or 10th grades might enjoy. You learn a good bit of history while getting a great story that makes you appreciate being an American. Love this book, and love this series.

It is very good to find the "We were there" books on Kindle as my local library has none of them. I remember reading them as a child and now have four on the kindle to help my expat grandson learn about American history. We read a chapter a week on Skype and he has been very interested to learn about Boston and the real tea party.

Have loved this book for more than fifty years
Have loved this book for more than fifty years! Were the sixties really that long ago?!It puts one right in the middle of the action and makes the characters of the Revolution come alive. My sister and I read this series over and over and this one was our favorite. Our children read them, too. Now I am sending The Boston Tea Party to my grandchildren. Wish I could find We were There at the Battle of Yorktown!

My parents read these books to me when I was a kid. I loved them; they are a very entertaining way to learn about history. I was thus really excited to see that many of them are offered on Kindle, so now I can read them to my kids.
