After Effects Expressions: The Modern Period

Clearly written so that even a non-programmer can understand it
This is a complex subject, but the text is well written and very easy to follow with step by step guides and explanations. This book is exactly what I am looking for because I want to experiment with reiterating graphic animation in After Effects. My only criticism is that the link to the companion files does not work. It takes me to the publisher's page, but there is no download link on the page for the files. I have written to the publisher about this, and hopefully they will send me a proper link.

Great for learning scripting in After Effects
A must if you want to go into scripting in after effects. Although the examples could be more fun, the content covers all aspects of scripting.

Easy to read and helpful to improve my knowledge
This book is a very great one. Step by step we get into those expressions that always frighten me in the past. English is not my first language but the book is easy to read and to understand.

After Effects Expressions
Going into After Effects Expressions from Toolfarms expression series, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I can tell you this is where you need to go for your start. I knew a little, but starting over from scratch and following Marcus from beginning to end did wonders for my understanding of expressions. You'll walk away from this book completely prepared to take apart any code you find on the internet, or in your projects. The foundation of basic knowledge in the first half is more than you'll ever need to ramp up your workflow, and then he takes you to the complex, which in my opinion though confusing at first, really opens your head up to what the possibilities are. If you are at all interested/in need of, knowledge of expressions, this is where you should start

Excellent
Last night I spent an hour writing an expression that allowed a wheel to turn at the correct speed while travelling along a curved bumpy path. Now, it took a long time to do and a fair amount of thought, but it's something I'd never have even dreamt of a month ago.The book is excellent, although the chapters are a bit on the long side (I like to be able to finish one chapter in an evening) and I wouldn't buy it unless you've a basic understanding of After Effects. That said, I knew next to nothing about programming before buying the book. I now have an extremely strong foundation to writing scripts and (more importantly) understanding the scripts of others.Yes, the going is tough at times, but this has to be the most user friendly book I've ever read on After Effects. A perfect beginners introduction to JavaScript.
