Q: Do you have to put deionised water in the tank

I live in a hard water area and I use 50/50, have had product a year and have done the descaling three times, which is quite simple undoing the bolt on the tank. I purchased the bottle with orange crystals from Morphy Richard and am still on the first few bottles, I iron once or twice a week so depends on volume of load. Warning it does spit initially and when tank needs cleaning a warning light comes on.

Q: What is the weight of the iron part of the steam generator?

I have just weighed the Iron and it was 900g if that helps. It feels no heavier than a standard Iron.
