Excellent book, incredible author and teacher
A must for a novice into the Craft...Excellent as a text for self learners..Her books are easy to read, interesting, and you somehow retain the information you read without trying! .Marian Green is GREAT..I.love her magazine, "The Quest"....she doesn't just author a book; she teaches you as you read! She has personally known and worked with the best of the best in the UK, so she really knows her stuff! If I could give more than 5 stars I would!!!

Alone no longer...
Aside from the once popular belief that only a 'witch' can make another 'witch, that the opposite sex must be employed when initiating, and/or training, Greene takes this, and simply steps up, over, and across such doctrines, no doubt founded by old Gerald, when he invented Wicca, in the 1950's.'A Witch Alone', and 'Wild Witchcraft' are two books that I would recommend for ANY Witch, Wiccan, Pagan, etc.Long gone are the days when Solitary worship were frowned upon.I myself, a Priestess of the Old Religion for over 25 years, have spent a good 2/3rds as a Solitary, BY CHOICE. While I do NOT agree to self initiation, a self Dedication ritual should suffice, merely getting 'the attention' of the gods and goddesses of witchcraft, and the Occult in general: Hecate, Diana/Artemis, Athena/Minerva, Lilith, Isis, and many, many more...this books strips away the Wiccan doctrines and dogmas, and simply gets to the bones of the Craft. Very empowering, and one of my highest reccomendations, as well as one of my required reading lists for my own students/acolytes, one who is now a High Priestess herself of her own coven, albeit Mohsian, an offshoot of Gardnerian Wicca, but what isn't? (Wiccan tradtions that is).In summary, I'll end with this:BUY THIS BOOK!!! LOL

Not what I expected
Was expecting a different type of book, thought this would give me dates of specific holidays and ideas of how to celebrate those holidays. This book reads like a story, was looking for more of an instruction manual.

A breath of fresh magickal air!
As a long time practitioner, I applaud this book for making me re-think all that I have learned and been taught over the years! In fact, the information within rings so true that I have come to a conclusion that I had tossed about for a number of years, that modern Wicca has little to do with Witchcraft! It does not fulfill the purpose of wise ones with great skill who are able to help themselves and their communities! After all, what good are a bunch of people dressed up in the finest gothic/medieval garb, spouting catch phrases and unable to even conjure up the most basic peace of mind! For the lucky, who come to this book... I recommend it whole heartedly ( as do I her other books!). It is my wish that they should tread the path until they find their own truth upon it! It is my hope that they come to know the Lord and Lady and derive strength from Them enough so as to no longer care what is considered to be "authentic" by so many modern ones who call themselves witches, or shamans, or what have you! Think, Think, Think for yourselves! Find a Craft that serves you and all those around you and you will find your own true magick! This is a deceptively simple book, but read and re-read will provide increasingly deeper layer of meaning!

Great for History and Practice
This is a wonderful book for many reasons, but what I liked best about it is the way history is incorporated into it. I was able to place sticky notes in certain chapters and pass it on to friends or family who wanted to know more about the history behind pagan religions.Everyone has their own path in life, but having a knowledge of history is, to me, very important in the ability to make up one's mind about true spirituality. This book gives that knowledge, as well as some very concrete pointers to progress along the witch's path. It is certainly not for everyone, but I greatly enjoyed it.

Highly recommend, a deep insightful book
I will return to this book again and again, everyone interested in paganism and witchcraft should read this book. This goes deeper than a lot of books I’ve read on the subject.
