Helion HLNA0184 HELION DOMINUS 10TR 4WD ELECTRIC RC TRUGGY

This is a tough one because when it's working it is so much fun, but I don't abuse it at all and I've had some problems.During only the third run on the original battery (so not that much time) an "E" clip popped out of the steering mechanism. My local Hobby Town told me what the problem was and gave me a free one which was nice but said that it shouldn't have happened.Then on about the 6th run of the battery the front tires locked up and wouldn't move. I was able to look at this and see that the set screw for the front drive shaft had loosened up and was wedged against the motor. I was able to turn the shaft with some force and screw that screw back in and it runs fine again.The final issue is that is has some cogging of the gears when accelerating but it don't know if it's any worse than on other trucks, I'm just hoping that the shaft issuing didn't cause any gear or motor damage for the long term. I'll let you know.So in conclusion, this is a really fun truggy when it's working and overall I think the construction actually seems good, but for as little as I've used it without any abuse whatsoever I've had 2 to 3 problems so I hope you have better luck.UPDATE - I don't think the cogging is bad after experiencing some other units, and I haven't had any long term issues with this.

This is the first RC car I have ever bought for myself and I love it. I know it's not one of the best out there but it is cheap compared to those higher end cars. The car is plenty fast for a noob like me and it's fairly tough and easy to get parts for. The tires are very grippy on asphalt and it great fun to run in dirt. I upgraded to 15038 Venom Lipo batteries and it's even faster and more powerful now. Do your research on Lipo's though. They can be dangerous in the hands of those that don't know how to charge and handle them. There are some other upgrades I plan on doing including metal CV type axles. I've heard that the dog bone drive axles can fall out but that hasn't happened to me yet. You will want to buy a better battery and a better charger right away. The battery that comes with it has a low capacity and the charger is very slow to charge, taking about 4-6 hours. This is one of the reasons why they can sell it cheaper. So, as a first RC car it's good. You can always upgrade stuff later.EDIT 5/21/16 After having the car for over a month I'm still happy with it. A friend has a couple Traxxas cars and I think my Helion is actually tougher and better quality. I've only broken a few things. Two rear upper suspension arms and one front upper suspension arm. Easily replaced and not expensive. I've been running a 3S lipo the whole time and driving it pretty hard and have no problems with the drive train or motor. I've rolled it, cart wheeled it, jumped it and driven it at top speeds. Still holding up. Just today I upgraded the suspension arms all around with RPM brand. These are thicker and stronger and guaranteed not to break.

This thing is tough. The plastic has more give and is a little less brittle than the Traxxas trucks. I've removed bark from trees with this, and it just bounced off and kept going.It's designed by guys from Team Losi, which is the biggest name in RC. It's like Ferrari engineers creating a more affordable sports car for the average person and naming it sometime other than Ferrari.This is also easily upgradable. I eventually put a much more powerful motor and ESC in it. Now it keeps up with the $500 to $700 trucks and still survives impacts better than they do.For the price, you cannot beat the Dominus 10TR.

bought it at hobbytown, had their tech solder a deans plug on the esc, tried to set the truck up for lipo but the speed control didnt want to wake up. the service tech at Hobbytown got it to come on by rapidly switching the car on/off and said it was a fairly normall glitch.we ran 1 pack through it and had to leave. we went back to the track the following weekend and couldn't get the esc to come on but the steering worked just fine. the whole staff looked at it and said the speed control was bad! they refused to offer us any help and said I had to contact Helion. well I've emailed them twice with no response over the last 2 weeks.the customer service is TERRIBLE and I havent even had enough time to run the truck to even give it a review.I'll never buy another Helion product

This is an excellent white elephant gift for Christmas Kris Kringle. Great potential to dominate this market. It should be renamed "DOMINUS ASPROS ELEPHANT". 5 star pricing, 0-3 star customer service at Hobby Town. Should anything go wrong (and it will!) - be reassured, there are parts and you will very soon get to know each and every one. Have fun!
