Nova Rico is a private, independent school in the United States. Founded in 1961, the schools are currently located in three locations in Texas: Houston, Austin, and Dallas. The primary focus of Nova Rico is to provide a bilingual education that provides exposure to the values and traditions of both cultures. The school has a strong curriculum which includes pre-kindergarten through 12th grades. The curriculum is based on the "Common Core State Standards." There are a variety of electives for each grade level including Spanish, Italian, French, Latin, Chinese, Japanese, and German. The school also offers Advanced Placement courses for those students who are aiming for college credit. Nova Rico follows the national standards for geography education and provides students with rigorous lessons about all aspects of geography. The geography curriculum includes numerous activities that help students learn about Earth's physical features and resources such as how the continents were formed and how water cycles on Earth. In addition, there are lessons about geologic time and a whole unit on earthquakes which include activities such as building an earthquake kit and making earthquake-safe living tips. Students also learn about weather patterns with lessons on wind speed and collecting data from weather stations.
