Great for converting videos to digital!
I needed to convert old 8mm camcorder videos to digital. This worked perfectly!

Works perfectly with MacBook Pro (2016)
My parents gave me a box of old VHS tapes from my childhood, and after having to buy a new VCR (harder than it sounds) to play them, I decided that keeping them in analog tape format was too risky. It's cost prohibitive to pay fo a conversion service, so I looked into doing it myself. Several of the choices I looked into on Amazon were 10-15 times more expensive than this one - but this was a cheap experiment and had good reviews, so I took the plunge. All I can say is it works perfectly for what I need - I have a Sony VHS player and connected it with the If-Link adapter, and am using the OEM Apple USB-A to USB-C dongle to connect it to my MacBook Pro. The instructions are printed in very small text on a sheet that comes with it, but I was able to figure it out with reading glasses quite easily. You have to download OBS Studio (free, open source) and If-Link's instructions tell you exactly what settings to choose.VHS tapes are very low resolution - but there is no noise, no static - it's just clean. Highly recommended!

No Luck getting Capture USB to work properly or satisfactorily (Video capture IU32A)
I have experience working with various media formats since 2001 for editing, Everything from VHS, Hi8 DV and then conversions to digital, so none of the older tech is new to me. I had the sense that this could work with the right setup and some careful setup.I wanted to try to convert some family videos as I have in the past with other setups, but the unit I received did not work well at all. My setup: I have a high quality VCR that played VHS tapes very clearly on a TV.I tried four different computers newer & slightly older Macs, same with two PCs- On main Mac no signal showed through Quicktime, Premiere or its own OSB software,- ON Mac 2 it showed a signal but distorted with heavy color banding at times and on some tapes a black bar, or image shifted halfway up frame and with jumbled image at others, trying many settings never got a decent image even after trying its own and other software. * Sound was alright. On PC 1 - It picked up signal but again image was highly distorted (all tests from original great condition movie tape) Like on the Mac we tried various settings and its was consistently distorted. This would be unsuitable for any conversion.- On PC 2 - No signal came through at all after trying four programs. So I will spend a little more for something of better quality. I am disappointed this did not work and sure wished they had a line where they tested this product and I have a feeling they do not from looking around that there are many like this very cheap and maybe the same chip - but I would not trust it converting something I cared about. Ideally once you capture a non compressed interlaced image there are many ways to edit both with free software but the signal needs to work to get to interlace compression issues, but this step one and it sure did not give me a chance.

It’s simple. Works great!
I transferred an old VHS training tape for work. I will be transferring many more personal family videos now. Download the OBS open source app. That is the key. Connect your VCR using 3 RCA cables - R, W , Y. Use the basic settings, and choose the correct input - video USB 2.0 - and as you play your old tape the image will appear on your computer. Press record on the app and it will turn your moving image into a digital video file. Worked very well. Files can be large so consider your storage space. 30 minutes at the default settings was about 1GB. Settings can be adjusted to create smaller files with less but indistinguishable quality. I see no need to spend more on other devices which do the same thing. OSB open source sampling makes universal video files which play with many video players, including Windows Media Player. CPU usage was minimal and I did the 30 minute recording on battery with my laptop. Very satisfied and confident to play it to colleagues in the morning. Many thanks.

NO DRIVERS
I wanted to convert some old VHS tapes into digital files and this seemed an easy solution and it would have been if it functioned as the instructions said. I have Windows 10 and my computer did not recognize this device at all. The simple solution is to download drivers but there is no website listed (apparently the drivers are supposed to be in Windows 10 already) so I had to download drivers of similar products until I found one that worked. After getting drivers, everything was easy. I downloaded OBS Studio and copied my old VHS tapes. Also, check to see if you need male to male adapters to connect to your VCR like I did. Physically, the product was great and the instructions were good - the only problem was missing drivers.

Hardware works great, software is hard to learn for me.
I have a problem with the OBS software that was recommend. The sound does not match up with the video. How can we fix this? I think that I have configured it wrong. I just wanted to transfer VHS tapes to digital. But the hardware works just great.
